A summary of what has been done so far
Update 26th April 2015: The chat room has been unfrozen following a new request being received for access to the Google docs. Since momentum seemed to subside in December after an initial flurry of work, I'm announcing this here for anyone who wants to get involved again. Of course anyone new is very welcome too - the ...
I supported the idea when it came up (see my answer there for more reasoning) and I still do. A few considerations specifically in response to the points you raised:
Actually, responding to other tweets can be a good thing. The Mi Yodeya Twitter account responds to other people's tweets if we can tweet a relevant question, and if people respond to our ...
I'm happy to announce that we made it past the threshold on 5 sites now:
The ad has also been posted at:
currently no sites where it is not past the threshold.
Note that this is a community wiki, feel free to edit as you vote on our ad or if you post an ad elsewhere.
I'd support this idea, with a couple things to mention.
A feed from the Blog seems perfectly fine to me. That content is already curated by one of the admins on the blog having to intentionally publish.
I wouldn't recommend tweeting ANYTHING from our chatroom. That place gets super weird. :D and discussions of genocide or the apocalypse (or snorting coke) ...
Candidate external ad, based on an example in a highly-voted design suggestion.
Update: So far I've been unable to confirm usage rights on the image. It's on a bunch of "download free wallpaper" sites, but that's not the same as republishing and it's not attributed.
Is this an acceptable use of the site?
Would the community be interested in it?
Would we store an overall description in an off-site repository, or just let the questions and upvoted answers describe the world?
Would some questions be better on meta, such as "what should we name our new world?"
This concept was discussed ...
You only get "credit" for referring people pre-private beta. But you can refer anyone to the site now, especially once it has entered public beta. Once it has entered public beta, just send them the link.
Right now you can invite specific people by email to the private beta. Go to the main site, and look on the right hand sidebar. There is a box that says "...
Some recent answers I think are deserving of Twitter:
Quenching swords in dragon's blood: why?
Reason for posting: The question itself is concise, clear and relatable, with an interesting idea and reasonable scope. The answers obtained are various and all of high quality, bringing together theory and practical application, with some debate about whether or ...
I am not a lawyer. This is not legal advice. The references I chose may or may not be outdated. If you want to be safe you should contact a lawyer. And possibly the SE staff with the contact button at the bottom of the page.
Is it legal to copy Stack Overflow questions and answers?, I will simply copy the accepted answer as it seems to perfectly answer ...
Another idea for the blog:
Wording mostly stolen from the EL&U blog ad; images are two header images from our blog, and the blog logo (which I have high-res versions of, if anybody wants one to make an ad with).
Font is Fairview, which is the font our logo is based off.
We don't have a shortage of views from potential users. We have 5 questions in the Hot Network Questions at the moment, and links are being posted to our site. There are plenty of new users arriving every day. I think what we need to address is ways of encouraging people to stay. At the moment we have far more answers being posted than questions. Our answer ...
The most basic way to share a website is to share links to great questions and answers. This is really easy to do within the Stack Exchange system, with built-in share links to Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. Share links to questions you find interesting and you think others would find interesting.

We could try and put some community promotion ads on other sites, such as Physics SE or RPG SE. At the end of every year, SE sites put up a meta post that allows people to put advertisements for open-source projects or things the community would find interesting. Here is Arqade's from last year.
If we used this idea, someone would have to make a graphic to ...
Something like this might work for the Universe Factory:
I've now managed to add metadata (mainly the information about used images; IIUC needed to comply with the license, since the community ad doesn't have additional descriptive text to it) to the image; the following is the resulting file (visually identical, but with metadata):
Images used in the ...
My artistic skills are non-existent, so I cobbled this together in Paint just as an illustration of concept, or to inspire someone with better art skills, not intended to be a final design.
The idea is for advertising the Worldbuilding Sandbox. The intention is to show a pair of hands sculpting a globe within a child's sandbox. At the top, the globe ...
And here's a general ad for Worldbuilding:
Background image is from a blog that says all its posts are public domain. Main font is once again Fairview, secondary font is Quartz MS.
Posted on SciFi, on the suggestion of a few people in chat.
I'm not opposed in theory.
But in practice, I think it's wise to be careful who we target in the Twitterverse. Obviously you can't (easily) control who would follow this account, but you can control to some extent who you connect with.
I would recommend connecting with other groups that are more or less aligned with our interests: worldbuilding, fantasy /...
(Note: the image in the question here is no longer the one being used; ad requirements chaanged.)
It's late in the year, I know, but I was looking for the list of sites where we currently have ads and didn't find it, so maybe we didn't compile it for 2016. If you have a link to the 2016 ad for Worldbuilding on some other site, please add it here.
With our graduation comes the ability to run ads that we design on our site. These are called community-promotion ads. Early next year SE will open a post where we can submit designs for ads, and any ad that gets enough votes will join the rotation.
So that people can start thinking about ads (not just this one, but any others we'd like to see), here is ...
I don't think being the official single source of truth for a particular fictional world is within SE's model. But I wouldn't object to a community wiki post that indexes worlds to which members can contribute. Here are examples of questions that a community wiki might answer:
Which fictional worlds created by Worldbuilding SE members have a universe ...
